If your accountant is no longer responding, or you want to change provider, start with the records you can access. We review what is available, identify the gaps and agree a takeover plan before beginning the work.
What we check first
- The last period entered in the accounts and the available opening balances.
- Which declarations and annual reports have been submitted, and what is outstanding.
- Access to accounting software, the VID Electronic Declaration System (EDS) and the company’s document archive.
- Missing invoices, bank statements, payroll information and explanations needed from the owner.
How the handover works
1. Access and records
We agree a secure document route and the authorisations needed. You keep control of company access; never send passwords through the enquiry form.
2. Missing work and deadlines
We compare the available records with filed declarations and upcoming deadlines, then agree the order of work.
3. Corrections and handover
Earlier-period repairs are described and quoted separately. We explain which records are missing and what can be completed with the information available.
4. Regular monthly bookkeeping
Once the handover work is agreed, we set the ongoing scope, document deadlines and monthly reporting arrangements.
What to have ready
- The periods you need help with and the last reports you received.
- Accounting exports or backups, if available; recent bank statements and invoices.
- Payroll records and employee information, where relevant.
- Any messages about missed filings or other unresolved accounting questions.
You can enquire even if some records are missing. Describe the situation in the first message; send confidential records only after we agree a secure route.
