Export growth is useful only when you can see the margin it brings

A new foreign order can look attractive in revenue reports while freight, packaging, returns, currency movements or long payment terms make it less attractive in cash and profit. Before expanding a product into another market, an exporter needs the costs and evidence attached to the sale, not only a total sales figure.

The Latvian Ministry of Economics reports that Latvia's share of world export markets declined over 2022–2024 and that wage costs have risen faster than productivity. Those are economy-wide observations, not a conclusion about an individual exporter. The European Commission's 2026 Latvia report also describes competitiveness pressure. A company's own margin by market is the evidence for its decisions.

Build a usable view of each market

Start with sales by customer, product and destination. Attach direct production or purchase cost, freight, packaging, platform fees, commissions and returns using a consistent method. Record the currency and exchange-rate effect separately. Keep VAT treatment and supporting evidence visible as a compliance check; VAT is not simply another cost to subtract in every case. Finally, compare the contribution and cash collection period across markets.

Export revenue and direct market costs form contribution by market, while VAT evidence and cash collection are reviewed separately.

How FinSynta helps

We map the sales and cost data already held in invoices, accounting records and operational systems. We agree a practical allocation for costs that serve more than one product or market, reconcile the totals to the accounts, and prepare a recurring market-level contribution and receivables view. We review cross-border invoice evidence and tax questions with the facts of the transaction, flag exceptions, and explain where a specialist customs or overseas tax opinion is needed. The result supports a pricing, channel or working-capital discussion using numbers the owner can trace.

This cannot tell a company which foreign customers will buy next. It can show whether current sales are producing the expected return and where more evidence is needed before expansion.
